After the inauguration of NPA by HE President Museveni, Ugandans expectations of the Authority rose. The Authority will regulate the oil sector and the National Oil Company (NOC), and its tasked to be the commercial arm of the government in the oil production process. It’s core function is ” to monitor and regulate exploitation, development and production of petroleum in Uganda.”
Ugandans expect the Authority to implement environmental standards, impose fines and penalties where necessary, ensure transparency in the bidding process and also monitor the activities of the oil companies. The Authority is also expected to have capacity to influence decision making processes like all the other oil companies worldwide. Ugandans also expect the NAP to be independent of the influence from the powers that be and ensure transparency and accountability.
