Thousands of people were seen as they waited eagerly to watch this great sporting spectacle unfold as the 2016 Masaza Football Cup Tournament was officially launched by the Kyabazinga of Busoga, Isebantu Gabula Nadiope William Wilberforce Kadhumbula IV.
In the coming weeks ,we will see contests of human skill and endurance but above all of courage and character. Participation and sportsmanship, more than winning or losing, which will strengthen the cherished ties of goodwill and understanding that unites us as one family. “The Tournament is to promote Unity, Our rich history, Culture and friendship among all our people. Lets embrace it and May all teams win”, The Kyabazinga remarked during the opening.
In the first match of the Tournament, Bugweri easily defeated Kigulu with two goals, a match that attracted thousands of people from top dignitaries like Busoga Prime Minister, Dr. Joseph Muvawala and the 11 chiefs of the Busoga Kingdom.
The local people were more excited to see their Kyabazinga Gabula Nadiope William Kadhumbula IV than the match itself. Busoga’s golden and leading artiste, Maro entertained the crowd at the first half of the match encounter before he proceeded to perform at the Miss Tourism event that was held at Crane Crested Hotel.
Busoga is known for its rich Football talents like; Late Abel Dhaira, Timothy Batabaire, Andrew Mwesigwa, Moses Oloya, Isaac Isinde, and Geofrey Massa. The Busoga region also boosts of 4 Super League teams; Kirinya-Jinja SSS, Sadolin Paints FC, Jinja Municipal Council and Bul-BIDCO FC.
