Theo Walcott dropped as England names a 26 Man provisional Squad

Manchester United forward – 18-year-old Marcus Rashford – has been included in the 26-man squad, less than three months after he made his first-team debut for his club.

Leicester’s Jamie Vardy and Danny Drinkwater, Newcastle United’s Andros Townsend and Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere have also made it onto the shortlist, but there is no place for Theo Walcott or Phil Jagielka.

Hodgson delayed the announcement until the final round of Premier League fixtures had been played in order to better assess players’ fitness. Despite being impressed by Rashford who has been invited to train with the senior squad before upcoming friendlies against Turkey, Australia and Portugal, the England manager signaled it was unlikely the teenager would make the final 23.
