Alexander Bagonza is one brave and straight to the point kind of person since he calls himself Apass da teacher I think is walking the talk here. A Pass has enjoyed tremendous success on both the Reggae and Dance hall music charts. He is a highly versatile dance hall reggae artiste who performs four different genres of music if we are to talk about experience He has worked with a variety of top Ugandan and International music studios and producers in the Reggae and Dance hall arena such as Alex from Jamaica (A.I.P), Black Spyda from Jamaica, Nessim (Badi Musik), Imon(Southside) Baru (DustVille), Nash, Benon, Just Jose(Swangz Avenue), Samurae (Talent 256) and several others and he has been one of the brains behind the GO MAMA album so I think he knows what is talking about. The Wuuyo hit maker as thrown hard knocks to most of the Ugandan musicians and artists respectively as he blames them for composing music for baby consumption and he even goes ahead and challenges them to standout because of their music not nudes or controversies, this is what he had to say “Music to me is a lifestyle, nowadays, for some it’s about making money. People are in it to feed their families and I can understand and appreciate that because everyone wants to be a musician. Personally, I do not try in anyway to please people with my music, I just do what I love but I still respect the art (creating meaningful and lovely music). I work very hard and I don’t worry about being over exposed because I release so much music. If you asked me if I listen to alot of music, locally or internationally, I would tell you “NO”. It’s up to you to say I am mean or arrogant but I would tell you most of the music in supply today is for “Baby Consumption”. There is no art in the music most especially in Uganda. We have created music for people to listen to for just 3 months or less and that’s it. A serious artist would rather do a song that’s 1 minute long and have it make sense than make a hit song that doesn’t. I believe people don’t want to cover ground #TheyDontWantToStruggle hence making music that is not timeless or meaningful to society. I don’t blame anyone for creating Baby Music but I feel sad when some people do music which does not reflect their age despite all of us having creative differences. As artistes, we came to do what We want to do. Creatively,Personally everything I’ve done in Uganda/Africa no one has done it because I follow my feeling and not the public or the media From Day 1, I have never complained about my level in music or why I am not on this and that level, I just do what I love with all my heart and that’s why I stand out. #StandingOut Some people stand out because of their controversies, nudes, abusing one another, image, etc; I stand out because of the music. I have learnt to appreciate time and learn as much as I can about my field of work hence my daily improvement and I don’t take my eyes off that but know, I’m not perfect. #IJustCareAboutMusic I feel we need that balance between Baby Music and Serious Music #Duality Like school; we’re not all bright students. What we all might want may differ and that’s the way of life, we define success differently. Personally, I want to give back to my community and if my music can help me achieve that, I’ve achieved success. If you are doing something, do it and learn from your mistakes!
