The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) under its emergency committee has confirmed they will fly deceased goalie Abel Dhaira’s body to Uganda as well as handle the burial arrangements.

Dhaira succumbed to abdominal cancer on Sunday afternoon after being bedridden for close to four months in Iceland. His family had earlier intimated to Kawowo Sports that it will require not less than $15,000 (Ugx. 55m) to bring the body back for burial at his ancestral home in Walukuba, Jinja and FUFA’s announcement rescues the situation.

The Emergency Committee of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has taken charge of preparations for the return of the remains and burial arrangements of former Uganda Cranes goalkeeper, Abel Dhaira,” read part of the statement before revealing that the agreement was reached after consultation with the family.

President Museveni has offered UGX50.5M to take care of Dhaira’s burial after his club IBV said they were not in position to transport his body back. This comes after Dhaira’s family said they needed UGX50.5M to transport the body from Iceland

“Dhaira’s father is in agreement with the arrangement that will see the federation handle the logistics” said Magogo as quoted by fufa.co.ug. With reports that some individuals had started the move to fund-raise for this, the FA cautions.
