Lightweight contender Sharif Bogere has signed a promotional contract with Mayweather Promotions, the company announced on Thursday.
Bogere had been with Golden Boy Promotions but that contract expired in December and they did not make a new deal.
Bogere (27-1, 19 KOs), 27, fought for a world title in March 2013, losing a unanimous decision to Richar Abril. Since then, Bogere is 4-0 with a second-round no contest in his last fight in August.
“This is such a great day for me and an important move for my career,” Bogere said. “I’m very thankful to Floyd [Mayweather], [CEO] Leonard [Ellerbe], and the whole Mayweather Promotions team. I cannot wait to get back in the ring and show everybody why I’m a future world champion. I want to fight the best and I feel this will put me in a position to conquer the sport.” Mayweather, the recently retired pound-for-pound king, said he was pleased to sign Bogere to his company’s growing stable of fighters.
“We’re proud to add another young, hungry fighter to our Mayweather Promotions stable,” Mayweather said. “Sharif Bogere is a very talented young man with an incredible backstory and I know that he’s working hard to become a world champion.”
Bogere, a native of Uganda who lives in Las Vegas, is trained by Kenny Adams.
