Matthew Kitandwe,18, is best remembered on the Uganda U-17 team that took part in the CAF U-17 qualifiers during the year 2014.

Although, he failed to make the cut to the team that played home and away to Zambia, he was a regular and punctual member in all the training sessions under Mathias Lule as head coach.

Sadly though, he is no more.

Kitandwe was murdered on Tuesday evening on the Wayford Street in Battersea City, Southern London in the United Kingdom.

According to Gwandsworth Guardian media plat form, the deceased was a student at South Thames College (Wandsworth campus). Kitandwe, a former St John Bosco College student also played football for Colliers Wood, a local football club in the locality.

He was stabbed at around 4 p.m and police was called by London Ambulance Service in Wayford Street at 4.15pm before he was pronounced dead at 5 p.m.

Police has indicated that an 18 year old has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in custody in south London.

His friend and South Thames College classmate Sarah Ahmed said:

HE WILL BE MISSED BY MANY PEOPLE, HIS SMILE AND HIS BANTER WHAT MADE PEOPLE LIKE HIM. HE WAS VERY FRIENDLY AND APPROACHABLE AND WAS ALWAYS FUNNY WITH THE LADIES AT COLLEGE, HE WILL BE MISSED.

South Thames College’s Spokesman noted;

WE WERE INFORMED THIS MORNING THAT ONE OF OUR STUDENTS WAS INVOLVED IN A FATAL KNIFE INCIDENT. OUR SYMPATHIES ARE WITH HIS FAMILY AT THIS VERY SAD TIME AND OUR TEAM OF EXPERIENCED YOUTH WORKERS ARE SUPPORTING STUDENTS AFFECTED BY THIS EVENT.

Formal identification has not yet taken place and a post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course, the Met has said.

Meanwhile thorough investigations by the Homicide and Major Crime Command continues to take effect.

In 2014, Kitandwe was brought by his father to the U-17 Uganda national team to have trials with the team which was preparing for the under age continental championship.

Months later he was taken to Butabika Hospital for rehabilitation on orders and request of the family after suspected cases of notorious acts.

The good news though, he recovered well on time and he traveled back to UK where he has been since.
