We don’t know what exactly Steve said to her or how she responded but backstage when Pia was asked her thoughts she simply replied: “It’s a very non-traditional crowning moment. Very 2015!†We told you that when Steve took to Twitter to apologize he misspelled both Colombia and the Philippines: “I want to apologize emphatically to Miss Philippians and Miss Columbia. This was a terribly honest human mistake and I am so regretful.â€Â He has since deleted those tweets and updated with the correct spellings.
Steve also posted this message to his Facebook page: “I made a terrible mistake tonight in announcing the wrong winner and runner-up for the Miss Universe Pageant. I know how much pride many countries, fans and most importantly, the contestants take in preparing for this night. I hope that you can forgive me. All contestants were amazing but I want to specifically apologize to Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines again and wholeheartedly. You both represented well for your countries, families and yourselves.†We still don’t understand how this happened. We saw Steve’s cue card and it had the correct winners, although he’s now blaming the teleprompter.
