The highly anticipated return of The Flash season 2 will change the face of Central City and complicate the life of Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) even further than we’ve already seen. The introduction of Earth-2 has brought a fierce new enemy with the arrival of Zoom, and a recent promo gives us a look at Caitlin Snow’s (Danielle Panabaker) Killer Frost and a glimpse at the returning Reverse-Flash.

Season 1 ended with Firestorm — Ronnie Raymond (Robbie Amell) and Martin Stein (Victor Garber) — saving the city, with Ronnie sacrificing himself in the process. Since then, we’ve met the new half of Firestorm in Jefferson “Jax” Jackson (Franz Drameh), who had to dig deep to prove to himself that he had a hero inside him. Still, Robbie Amell has promised that we’d see him again.

Now we might have an idea of how we’ll be seeing Amell’s Ronnie Raymond as his superhero alter ego. Twitter user @canadagraphs (via CBM) shared an image of Robbie Amell in a notably different Firestorm costume.

The image is a blurry set photo from an undisclosed source, but given the visibly different design to the Firestorm costume and the alternate versions of the familiar Flash characters glimpsed in the promo for season 2’s upcoming episodes, this is likely the Earth-2 version of Ronnie Raymond. Of course, we did not actually see Ronnie die… but he sure isn’t around on Earth.

With the reveal of the many portals into Earth-2 providing a virtually endless source of storytelling options, one strong early move made by the showrunners was to bring back one of the best parts of the first season: Tom Cavanagh’s Dr. Harrison Wells. With the new Firestorm joining Legends of Tomorrow, it was perhaps only a matter of time before Amell’s Ronnie Raymond would reappear in some form.

The Flash‘s midseason finale provided a satisfying pre-holidays cliffhanger via the interpersonal character drama, but as more and more characters show up — new ones along with the parallel-reality versions of ones we know — what kind of effect will Ronnie Raymond’s return have on Caitlin Snow? We’ve been expecting the kind and decent Caitlin’s transformation to her comic book alter ego villain for some time, but if we can assume that the return of Ronnie Raymond is from Earth-2, it may be safe to expect that Killer Frost will be Earth-2’s version of Caitlin Snow. We’ll know more once The Flash returns.

The Flash will return on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, while Arrow will return on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 and Legends of Tomorrow will see its series premiere on Thursday, January 21, 2016.
